It is great pleasure to introduce the second issue for the year 2011, Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy is one of its kind currently publishing quality reviews in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical research. Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy (Sys. Rev. Pharm.), a half yearly publication from the InPharm Association [www.inpharm.org], serves the need of different scientists and others involved in pharmaceutical research and development. Each issue covers review articles on drug discovery topics, and also publishes full length reviews related to different subjects in pharmacy and that are of broad readership interest to users in industry, academia, and government. We have started this publication in the year 2010, and we have greatly achieved enormous growth in terms of submissions and indexing. Currently, this journal is indexed in Caspur, EBSCO Publishing's Electronic Databases, Genamics JournalSeek, Google Scholar, Health and Wellness Research Center, Health Reference Center Academic, Hinari, Index Copernicus, Indian Science Abstracts, OpenJGate, PrimoCentral, ProQuest, Scimago Journal Ranking, SCOLOAR, SCOPUS, SIIC databases, Summon by Serial Solutions, and Ulrich's International Periodical Directory. The website and the cover page of the journal have been enhanced to make it more better. [1],[2],[3]
This issue brings seven important review articles in different fields of pharmacy. Patel et al. has highlighted on Ufasomes (unsaturated fatty acid vesicles) and a detailed description on preparation, stability, and microscopic characterization is presented. It is clear that ufasomes has more advantages compare to other vesicular drug delivery methods.
The second article by Kale et al. deals with the particle-size enlargement and its making and understanding the behavior of powder (particle) system. In pharmaceutical industry, it remains one of the most important considerations in solid dosage manufacturing. This article has highlighted different techniques on enlarging particle sizes. It is one of the most important tools in flow properties of pharmaceuticals. The third article by Sheraz et al. discussed on formulation and stability of ascorbic acid. As many of cosmetic preparations contain ascorbic acid derivatives, its stability in these formulations is a matter of consent. This article highlighted various factors involved in formulation and stabilization of topical ascorbic acid preparations. One of the recent advances in drug delivery systems is implantable drug delivery systems. Rajgor et al. highlighted the advantages of implantable drug delivery systems and also reviewed different biodegradable systems and various pump systems.
Phytosterols known for their active biological properties and widely distributed in plants. Wal et al. discussed biological activities of natural triterpenoids (Lupeol). It is really interesting to learn their immense biological properties such anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, etc. Similarly, Gupta et al. highlighted acetogenins and their activities such as cytotoxic, anti-tumor, and anti-pesticidal properties. A detailed review on extraction and isolation of these acetogenins is presented along with different structural elucidation strategies.
There are still lot of concerns with respect to swine flu. Gangrude et al. discussed a thorough review on swine flu. There are still many cases reported in different parts of the world related to swine flu and the World Health Organization in collaboration with many other national and international agencies is constantly working efficiently to evaluate, diagnose, and implement measures to contain the spread of this virus. I hope the content published in this issue will be fruitful to you.
I wish you a happy reading.
