Current knowledge of the biological and pharmacological effects of beta-hydroxybutyrates obtained by various methods was presented in a review. Antidiabetic, neuroprotective, renoprotective and antiepileptic effects, anticonvulsant and anti-inflammatory activity, as well as numerous other aspects of the biological activity of the studied substances, have been shown. The main directions for the development of the pharmacological use of beta-hydroxybutyrates have been identified.
